Very humbling message in the song. The earth and sky will still be here when you're gone. And we each think we're so important and in 100 years no one will even remember your name. Humbling for sure...
True. Very few are remembered in the distant future. It's mostly the horrible ones (Hitler) and the great ones (Mother Theresa) that are remembered. We have a limited time on this planet, both physically and in remembrance.
I believe most songs are sending a message about the author's ideas or feelings. Some of that screeching metal stuff I can't understand or handle so maybe just music to them with no message. Lots and lots of powerful messages have been sent thru songs as we know. The above song just seems very dark and point blank and has always bothered me, in that this is all there is. I drive thru a certain cemetery prolly too often and the old sections beginning 1918 never have any flowers but the newer ones do. As you write, in time no one remembers.
Even music without lyrics, like symphonies, can have messages, if you listen carefully.
