Every time I use the boot CD Mint ( I believe it's 17.6) I got last 4-9-2016, it takes forever to load up, forever. My PC is set to boot from CD first. If I ever install this, will it take just as long to load up?

My Mint Cinnamon machine boots up in under a minute and then login takes less than a minute.

most of the time it does take a little longer to boot from CD or USB drive as it is loading a lot of it to Ram. Once installed it is quite a bit faster.

I loaded the latest edition of Linux Mint to an old AMD dual core box that I gave to a neighbor who is not PC literate at all and it is not only pretty fast, he uses it daily with no issue.

when you're used to the 960 pro's snappy response, running a distro from a disc will seem horridly sloooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooow... :D

guessin' you fixed the issue with your pc???

No, haven't picked it up yet. This Inspiron 5000 series with 8th gen is kicking some serious butt so the motivation factor has decreased. The Beast sure looks big down there. Will take 2 of us to eventually lift it onto a nearby table.

As an aside, I'm looking at calling Best Buy Geek Squad to come get it.

I would not recommend it. All they know over there is how to wipe and reinstall name brand systems - the junk they sell.

I understand. I'll do as you suggested before with help lifting.

If you and galbud can't handle it, what about one of your VA buds?

Does Linux offer stuff like CCleaner and anti-virus programs we use on Windows?

    Linux doesn't need that stuff.

Don't call Geek Squad. They are nothing but bad news. Choose a local mom and pop computer repair store or call a computer recycling place. Support your community.

No Squad coming and I believe in community business. Also, there would be Hades to pay from a member if I chunked that PC to recycling, lol.
