Hi all, I recently looked into what it would take to upgrade my home network from 1Gbit to 10Gbit ethernet. I was actually quite a surprised how expensive 10Gbit networking gear still is, especially since 1Gbit ethernet technology has been around for well over a decade. Even smaller 10Gbit switches (5-8 ports) still cost more than $500, and anything larger that could be used as a central switch (16-24 ports+) costs $2000-$3000 or more. And running fiber everywhere instead would cost even more. This makes an easy upgrade path somewhat cost prohibitive at the moment. I'm curious what everyone's thoughts were regarding the next generation of ethernet based networking. Will we go to 2.5Gbit or 5Gbit first before going on to 10Gbit? When are prices expected to come down? Thanks in advance.
