Normal and USB Headsets? Difference?

    Hey guys,

    What the heck is the difference between a normal headset and a USB Headset? Is there different quality??

    USB headsets contain a soundcard in the device itself. So in effect you would be adding an extra soundcard and you can configure a program like ventrilo or other voip program to use that instead of the main soundcard. This all means that you can for example have the battlesounds on the speakers and the voice communication on your headset instead of everything together.

    I play World of Warcraft this way, and it is most excellent. I have a Plantronics DPS 500 and the sound renders well. I often put both the game sound and the Ventrillo sound into the headset to enjoy immersion in my game, while saving my marriage... :)
