So it works outside the case but not when you screw it in?

Could it be something conducting? Did you get little non-metallic washers with the motherboard and did you use them on the standoffs when you screwed the motherboard in?

    Good luck

Make sure that any standoff in the mounting tray matches up to the mounting holes on the motherboard (the holes with the metal rings around them). Any stray standoffs need to be removed.

the only standoffs that are being used are the ones that fit with the MOBO, could there possible be something wrong with the headers?

Triple check your switch connections. Try starting by shorting the two switch pins on the header as described in the troubleshooter Cricked posted earlier. If that works and your 100% sure the switch is hooked up right, I guess that leaves a fault switch/button as the culprit

short the headers on the MOBO? and the headers i connected are color coded... so i dont think that would be a problem.. maybe the switch is at fault?

Yes, touch the flat end of a screwdriver to the two pins (should be easy to find if it's color coded) and hold until you get something to happen (should only take a brief second). It's outlined in the troubleshooter on the last step.

Also I think you can try hooking the reset swtich to the power switch pins and trying the reset switch to start it.

I don't know if you saw my edit (to my previous post) in time, but try using the reset button as the power button.
