Unlimited $$$$ or the best within a certain range? (several hundred dollar difference)

what purpose? Watching DVD/Blu Ray movies or playing games?

    There's a substantial difference!

Pretty much any video card will handle 1080p resolution (1920x1080)

Not all video cards will do 3d gaming at that resolution very well.

I prefer ATI branded cards for HDMI as they do true sound over HDMI and the color is much more vibrant...

I currently have a 4830 HDMI card in my HTPC and its overkill but it works...

I have a Asus 4650 HDMI for the bedroom HTPC and it works very well and I think its only a 50.00 card

I also have a 5750 HDMI and a 5830 HDMI but havent tried them yet...

More for watching dvd and no blu ray since I have a blu ray player. Really it will be more for watching online tv shows.

That card should be fine. Is it not doing something correctly?

Nope, as long as your resolution is set correctly, the rest is pretty much up to the HDTV where you can also make picture adjustments.

Let me ask this, when I set it at the highest resolution for the card, the pc seems to run a litlte sluggish. Is there a reason why it does this?

    thanks.

It takes more juice to run at higher resolutions, especially for 3D graphics.

However, the maximum optimal resolution for your HDTV is 1920x1080.
