In answer to your questions in that thread, yes, they do testing before a release. However, it's nearly impossible to test every possible combination of hardware and software out there. So, when bugs are discovered, simply report them and document any details about your system, and go back to an earlier driver version if the newer one produces a show-stopping bug on your system.

You also have to pay attention to which hardware is actually supported under certain drivers. Some older video cards and chipsets are only supported with the "legacy" driver sets.

yes i only have 1 system which is the one in my sig ..

plus i quoted the thread from nv forums . i wasnt having a personal problem .
i understand what you say . but i was only thinking that a tray icon and corrupted physics icon
was an easy thing for the makers to notice in long beta testing time /
am not talking about a drop of frame rate here or there ..

i will show you haw i have been runing away from one driver to another for the past 2 monthes
only to find more bugs

at driver 190.62 it was this issue :

http://forum.pcmech.com/showthread.php?t=210944

so i moved to driver 191.07 . but yesterday i was patching batman asylum when the patch updated the physics driver and requested
a dedicated hard ware for it . when i said no , the driver got messed up and showed error
messages about some installer missing .
so i reinstalled driver 191.07 and reinstalled the game but with no patch this time
but then i noticed the nview wasnt even there . i dont know what happened
at this point i installed the driver 191.07 again after i cleaned all files with ccleaner
but with no hop for nview . as an act of despair i went to check for new drivers
so i found 195.62 . so i download it and installed it . it seems to fix nview problem
but then there was no icon and there was an error message when clicking physics
icon . at that time it seemed like dawn here and i didnt get much sleep by then
i tested some games with it , and it was working normally and riva tuner showed
no hardware problems .. but when i saw that post at nvidia i think there also more bugs in it .
am not so sad cause its good for gaming . but its just seems to be going down the drain one driver after the other . which used to be one of the best things in nvidia

By saying no to part of the installation, that probably caused some problems. When you run into video driver issues, the best thing is to uninstall all the video drivers and related software (with nvidia, you can uninstall within control panel > add/remove programs), then install fresh.

I haven't updated the Nvidia drivers on my other PC for months. Every time I update lately games start freezing. I'm still on the 180.... drivers for Windows 7 and they work fine. Historically, Nvidia drivers have been mostly rock solid. I don't know what's going on.

I haven't had any problems so far with ATI drivers on my new PC.

Gee - I'm still on 162.18 on XP - no complaints except the usual lousy 2D Nvidia display. The only reason I bought a Nvidia when I built this thing over a year ago is at the time, ATI drivers were terrible.

Not to side track this thread but I have always heard about Nvidias lousy 2D performance but I have always wondered what exactly is meant by this. I see no difference in 2D performance between my ATI and Nvidia cards sitting side by side.

I did work on a PC recently that had an Nvidia chipset with onboard video and no matter whether it was through that or a video card colors were way over saturated. I can't imagine that would be normal for Nvidia.

To my eyes, historically ATI has always had better clarity and more accurate colors than Nvidia. It's a lot better than it used to be, but I can still see the difference. I have 2 machines on a KVM here - one with an old FireGL 8800 and this one with a 8600GTS, and to my eyes, the ATI is a better looking display. Perhaps "performance" is not the best term.

I'm with glc on the 2D quality between brands. nvidia has always been good for raw 3D, but the quality of a 2D image was never quite as clear as ATI's. Also, the color balance with 2D on nvidia cards has always been off quite a bit (more of a yellowish tint to everything), even after making color adjustments with the control panel to try to address it.

actually my card never passed 65 C while at full load . considering its an amp edition , which is
already over clocked at company . it always have a stable performance and can runs
latest games at 1920/1080 on very high , i dont usually use aa and vsync but i dont
really care for that . i like the way the games looks and preform i know its a matter
of time for my card to run behind but i dont care for that either . buying another
card on my current infra structure wont be a great deal of concern for me at that time .
it will be nvidia also lol .. i am bound with them for ever .

I have not had any issues with any Nvidia driver since the 170 series...

I have tried them all and I have several rigs....I am currently on the 195 series in Win7 and I was on the 190/191 before that...worked very well...

I also have to agree with glc about the ATI clarity of their cards...I put one in my HTPC and it made a world of difference picture wise...

well me too . but starting from 190.62 things weren't so well ..

i looked at Guru3D and nvidia forums and the complains about 195.62 are a lots
starting from missing and corrupted icons to display and instaling bugs .

i dunno about ATI drivers i herd some things about them but nvidia used to do
much better than this when it comes to drivers .. i hop its not the start of a technology
decay for them .
