Bye Bye, IPHONE
Will be a few days b4 get another cell, maybe longer if switch from AT&T to Verizon. I've had it with piece of junk (I PHONE)I was sweet-talked into getting by salesperson 2 months ago along with 2 year "upgrade" contract. Have had AT&T for years but they better downgrade me back to what had with my RAZR or going elsewhere. In order to get the I PHONE upgrade, they put me on a Family Plan which means I could keep old cell (RAZR) which now has it's own number, BUT they said can't use it although am charged $50 a month for it. Say What?? Anyway, the I Phone is, let's say, unusable now. The last straw came tonight...same problem have had from beginning. Sears called about a delivery and I had to press 1 to respond to a question. Cell had a blank screen, no keyboard much less keypad despite my frantic pressing the screen. The recording kept repeating question then hung up. Same when I call places and have to press numbers or enter SS number to
order meds. Sometimes it worked, mostly it didn't. Just blank screen. AT&T store who spent an hour selling me the junk said I had to drive across town to an Apple store to ask questions about the thing. Wouldn't even talk to me. I actually feel as though I've now been set free.

Personally I would go to Verizon sarge. I never like AT&T their service stinks to say the least.. Most people with IPhone use Verizon, and when a issue arises, they have no trouble getting it fixed..

I had one of the fancy schmancy touchscreen phones not too long ago, and it did the same thing your iPhone did. The last straw was that it just flat wouldnt connect to AT&Ts network. I went back to my trusty Motorola L2, hasnt failed me yet despite being nearly 5 years old. It doesnt have a camera or any of that kind of thing, just a basic phone, but it does what a phone is supposed to.

Most touchscreen phones blank the screen after a few seconds so that face touches don't start punching in keys while you're speaking. Usually you can just tap the power button (not a long press, just a tap). This should wake the screen up so you can use the onscreen keypad to enter numbers and such.
It's a feature, not a bug.

On mine, when it's up to face when I'm talking, the screen blanks out. As soon as I take it away from my face to look at the screen for something, it pops right back up. I don't have to tap anything.
I love my iPhone. : )

I have no complaints whatsoever with AT&T and my old original RAZR. People keep asking me when I'm gonna get with the program and get a smartphone - what for? If a phone makes and receives calls and text messages, that's all I need.

Part of me (not sure why) thinks I need a "fancy schmancy touchscreen phones."
Then reality kicks in and I remember that I very seldom use my cell phone and I hate having to charge it more then once a WEEK. Heaven forbid I'd have to charge it everyday.

I was thinking about getting a smartphone, but realized I don't use my current cellphone all that much, and when I do use it, it's for calls and text messages. I also don't care for the reliability (or lack thereof) of smartphones and the constant need for recharging, once a week is enough. Still using my Samsung RAZR ripoff I got few years ago and haven't had any trouble with it.

I will say that getting a smart phone to me was kind of like getting broadband several years ago. Once you have it (email, internet, etc.) you don't go back. Maybe it has something to do with my type-A personality too that I need to have instant access to email/internet all the time.

I don't want to be BOTHERED with email and the Internet when I'm on the road..........
I have a netbook, if I want to check my email or get on the Internet, there's plenty of wifi out there. A 9 inch screen is a LOT nicer to look at than one on a phone.

Ummm... I wish that were true! I would have an iPhone right now if it worked on Verizon. No one can use an Iphone on Verizon because it works ONLY on GSM networks like AT&T. Verizon uses CDMA.

My life is not so frantic that I feel I need to be connected to the internet 24/7. Unfortunately, my employer has told me I need to be reachable at all times while working. So they pay for mine.
A cell phone with voice messages is good enough for me and the only features I ever use.
People lived just fine without all this expensive crap 30 years ago. Some just think of them as a necessity.
I think most of these smart phones are being used mostly for fun and entertainment than as a necessity. Nothing wrong with that...that's why I own a gaming computer.

I side with G... I want two features on my phone.... 1... I dial a number and it makes the phone of the person I'm calling ring so they can answer it.... 2... somebody dials my number and my phone rings so I can answer it.... to me, even the texting in an extra I can do without.

I rarely talk on the phone. I love having all of the apps on my iPod Touch. The only thing missing is the phone and the internet connectivity everywhere.
I have been making due with my BlackBerry Storm which has been lackluster at best, though the latest 5.0 update is a huge improvement. I'm actually typing this in my BlackBerry. I couldn't do that before.

The keyboard on my netbook is as small as I'm comfortable with. If I had to type on a smartphone qwerty with my thumbs I'd go nuts. I can deal with the standard keypad on my phone for SHORT text messages and I have what I usually say stored in my quick notes (call me - OK - yes - no - etc.). Don't even text me unless you are prepared to get a phone call in response - and if I'm driving, that's ALL you are going to get - a callback. If you don't need an immediate response, just email me.

My thoughts exactly.
On a quick side note guys.
My mother-inlaw is a little technology challenged, she's not affraid of it she just breaks it, she has even found pages in the Dish network box menu that the technicians don't know anything about.......
She has a RAZR W490 with Tmobile and she has now destroyed the screen, can anyone think of a phone that takes a sim card and just gives you phone access and maybe a camera? no other features please!, she will just break them. What ever you recommend I will find an unlocked version on ebay.

And then there's the part where phones are too smart and too good...My Bro in Law was in town last week and Friday night we went to dinner...We hadn't seen each other in about a year and we were FINALLY able to have a one on one conversation when his battery died..
Between his boss/clients/kids and wife - he was non stop texting and talking...Course to him, this is normal and natural

I don't own a netbook or a notebook. I have no reason to spend hundreds of dollars to do things that I can do with my $50 iPhone. Plus, to me, it's a heck of a lot easier to carry around a phone in my pocket than carry around a laptop. I get a lot of email that's actually important to me, and it's important to me to be able to keep up with it when I'm out. To be able to do that on a device that I can also make calls and send texts on, and be able to access the web if I find it necessary, and the whole thing fits in my pocket....well, to me, it doesn't get any more convenient than that.
When I'm in the waiting room at a doctor's office, or on a break at work (and the tv in the break room has Maury freaking Povich on), or the passenger in a car on a long road trip....it's nice (not necessary, no....but nice) to be able to play some games or surf the web on my phone to keep me occupied. I don't generally have my desktop system with me in these situations. ; )

I must REALLY be a dinosaur - to me, that's rude as hell! When my stepdaughter starts doing that, I simply walk away. If I'm working with someone or having a conversation with someone, and I get a call or a text, I take a quick look and almost always let the call go into voice mail or wait to answer the text. I expect someone's undivided attention, and I reciprocate.

I couldn't agree more with both of you.
The mobile phone is a good and usefull invention but it has led to the creation of some of the most ignorant people I have ever had the misfortune to come into contact with.
No one person on this planet is that important that they cannot take a break from their mobile phone while they have lunch or whatever. If a call is that important and you are expecting it, make your apologies that you may be disturbed as you sit down to lunch, if the call is unexpected again make your apologies and leave the table. Even world leaders have an aide-de-camp who can take calls for them during their lunch or dinner breaks. To sit there and take calls and messages during a social event is the height of ignorance in my opinion, ranking up there with people who are late for appointments.
end of rant [/rant]

I sometimes check to see who is calling...it depends on the situation. Most times I don't answer it if I am already with someone else. I never though answer the phone in front of others, I quickly excuse myself and move away quickly to answer it if it might be urgent. I think people understand that.
What is truly obnoxious are people carrying away on their cellphones in public places where many other people are forced to have to listen in on the conversation. That is a very selfish and self-centered act. Take it away from listening distance of others for gawd sakes. The world does not revolve around any one person.
The worse incident I ever experienced was a cellphone ringing at an opera during a relatively quiet solo. You could sense the audiences and the actors anger at that one idiot.
Adding to the problem, people always seem to talk louder on a cellphone than in normal conversation. Last week my wife and I were subject to having to listen to a woman with a naturally loud voice speak on her cellphone in an adjacent campsite. The only thing we could do is to turn on our boom box to drown out her voice, which I did not like having to do.
In Japan, some places like restaurants and movie theaters have devices which kills a cellphones ability to receive or transmit. I'm all for that, where appropriate. I wish I had a cellphone jammer.
I just Googled "cellphone jammer" This is pretty funny actually. http://www.methodshop.com/gadgets/re...rs/index.shtml
Yes they are illegal for civilians to own them in the US and Europe, but most Asian countries allow them.
