Heated Gloves/Socks

Hi Folks,

I never bought heated gloves/socks, so I really do not know which brands are good, etc. Basically, I am outside in the winter a lot, and I need gloves and socks that are heated(usually the ones that are battery powered) -- I would like the gloves/socks to be long-lasting, and at least for the gloves to be wind-resistant.

Couple questions to consider when answering:
A) Do you have any particular recommendations?
B) Do you have any experience with that recommendation?

I don't know what my budget is yet, but probably something less than $100 in total. If you could help me out, that would be wonderful. I have googled this stuff already and found a ton of stuff, but I just do not know anything in terms of brand reputability, material, etc.

TIA,
Mateusz

Yeah, I heard about them before; at least thermal gloves. Sorry for such an awkward question.

Do yourself a favor... don't bother with gimmicks of heated gloves and socks... find yourself a good quality pair of gloves insulated with thinsulate and pull a second pair of wool socks over your regular socks... it will be just as warm without batteries.

it all depends upon what you are doing.

For example, I have a heated vest, socks and gloves (from Gerbing) for my motorcycle (they hook into the augmented electrical system on my motorcycle) and they ROCK. I DO NOT want to be zipping down the highway at 70mph with an airtemp of <40 without them (that works out to be well below freezing wind chill). They ain't cheap but they are absolutely invaluable.

If you are outside working, then, what HAL describes (plus a good hat) works wonders.

Do you need dexterity? I have a pair of down mittens that are the warmest thing I've ever had on.

Also consider the disposable heat packs. They make them glove-sized and toe-sized. Pretty useful, they give off heat for up to 8 hours. Pretty cheap from Sportsmans Guide.

Like Zena mentioned:

I work outside year around, my problem is my feet sweat even in cold weather, making my socks damp then they get cold. Changing socks after 4-5 hours helps a lot.
Also as mentioned quality socks, I wear 2 pair, attach the toe heater pack to the first pair then put the second pair over that, works great for me.
