Computer restarts several times a day
We have a Micro-Star MS-7142 work station at work that does this.
I'm running SpeedFan but I'm not sure if I understand it. The readings are as follows:
Fan1 = 2897
Fan2 = 938
Fan = 0
Temp1 = 36c
Temp2 = 38c
Temp3 = 66c
HD0 = 33c
Core = 39c
I was thinking it may be a heat problem so I took it home and cleaned it with canned air. I may not have done it good enough so I'm taking it home again.
My question is how do you tell which fan is which and I don't remember seeing 3 Fans?
Also I think HD0 is the HDD and Core the cpu so what are temps 12 &3?
BTW when I had it home last time it ran for 2 days and never restarted.
Am I even looking in the right place?
Thanks

If 66C is your CPU temperature, that's your problem. Please check your temps in the bios and compare them to what Speedfan says.

OK
BIOS readings are:
System Temp 39C
System Fan 2900
CPU Temp 40-44C
CPU Fan 3000
SpeedFan readings are:
Temp 1 40C
Temp 2 43C
Temp 3 66C
HD0 38C
Core 45C
What could Temp 3 be?
While I was running speedfan to get the readings it restarted.
Any other ideas?

temp 1 looks to be system temp, 2 the CPU and 3 is probably a false reading due to nothing there.
As for the restarting, start at the beginning with an inspection of the motherboard for dust build up/bulging caps/loose connectors/etc. PSU could be getting flakey.

I have inspected the MBO saw nothing on buldged caps. Took the fan off the CPU blew out all dust, blew out PSU, still the same thing.
If you say temp 1 is sys and temp 2 is CPU what would the Core temp be?
BTW Temp 3 does change up, ( 2-3 deg), when a load is put on it but never goes below 66C
Do you really think it could be the PSU?

I took this unit back to work and something strange happened that may be an issue.
When I hooked everything up and turned it on it came up with the message "No signal input".
I let it run for a couple of minutes but nothing happened.
I did a hard reset and it had the same Message, hard reset again and it booted up fine.
Could the on board video be going bad? And if so could it cause it to shut down and restart?
Would appreciate any help.....Thanks in advance.

I would try a different power supply.

Well just getting around to updating. It did turn out to be the PSU. It had an Austin DR-B300w in it. Replace with this one, although when I bought it i only paid $39.00.

I never would have thought it would be the PSU...learn something new every day that's why I love this site.
Maybe this will help someone else with same problem.
Thanks for the suggestions..

Austin PSU's are total trash - they are made by DEER. The Antec you bought is decent.

I kinda figured that about Austin after I googled it, didn't find many good comments. The Antec I knew would be low end but the Co. is pretty tight and thats why they wanted me to try to fix it vs buying a new one. Which I tried to get them to do...but oh well..I got my $$...lol
Thanks again

you can also try a program call CoreTemp, which tells you the temp of all your cpu core

Slaander, please read the whole thread - the issue was solved by replacing the power supply.

I only suggest on the program to read the true core temp with out guessing on the temp that is all.
