New build, power issues

I completed my build inside the case and everything powered on (cpu fan, video card...) but I wasn't getting any video. So I rebuilt it outside of the case with one stick of ram and everything basic and now the power supply starts up for split second, along with everything else, and then stops when I short it with the screw driver.
Any ideas?

Are you trying the out of case build without the video card? I believe that mother board has onboard video, so try with that.

After that, I would try a different power supply. See if that helps.

scratch the power issue, I got it working, but still no video. I'll try the on board video

So the power supply seems to be working again. I'm getting no post outside of the case with the onboard video. Should I still try a new power supply? Could this be a cpu problem?

Hate to be the one to tell you this but your 2 most important components are very low grade. ECS and Rosewill are computer refuse.
If you just bought this system I highly recommend you send those 2 components back asap and get an Asus motherboard and one of these brand power supplies: Antec, Sea Sonic, FSP, Corsair

Not that I don't trust you, but could I get a second opinion before I start returning things? Could you point me in the right direction for an asus board?

I got the mobo cpu VGA and hard drive as a combo, so I'll have to see about what returning that might be like. Thanks for the warning. Do Rosewill power supplies tend to crap out?

Actually Rosewill, per se, is not a poor manufacturer. They are Newegg's house brand, and they don't MAKE anything. Everything is someone else's stuff, rebranded. Their PSU's are not made by a quality manufacturer, but I've used other Rosewill components that are just fine.

Before condemning anything, read the out of case procedure carefully. Look up the procedure in the mobo manual to reset the CMOS to defaults - to make SURE the onboard video is enabled. Make SURE both the 24 (20+4) pin main connector from the PSU is connected to the mobo - *AND* the 2x2 between the CPU socket and the rear ports.

EDIT: Just noticed something - you should not be using DDR2-1066 ram in that board with that processor. It will NOT run any faster than 800, and the high speed ram on that slow of a bus may be having voltage or ratio issues that the bios can't compensate for automatically.
