HD Power Cable?

I have a new WD 1TB Green that I want to install in my main PC for backup. I have plenty of spare SATA connections. I just need to know what kind of cable I need to purchase to supply power to it.

Thanks,

Adam

Can you look at another SATA drive in the PC to see what the power cables look like?

I did, but I could not find it on Newegg so that I can order it. The optical drive and hard drive both have a cable that is very flat and about 1/3 of an inch wide. It is hoked in next to the SATA connection and into the MB.

That is all I know. Thanks,

Adam

You really need two cables. One is the data cable which is what you are referring to, I think. the other is the power connector. You need to check your power supply wiring to see if you have an extra power connector that will reach the location of the proposed hard drive. Here's a data cable and some with power connectors/adapters.

I have already made the SATA connection as I had two spare ones in the computer. Both the optical drive and C drive have a smaller conection that goes into the MB. One cable is orange and one is blue. I guess that I will just keep looking around.

Thanks,

Adam

These smaller cables are connected into the MB and there is two free slots. This is a Dell XPS if that helps.

You're looking for a "sata power adapter cable". Google will point them out. These are the 4 position disk drive connector to sata power connector.

One each - data and power adapter.
